[Hoping that she had some answer that was better than his own muddled thoughts of annulment, he groans softly and buries his face in his hands with a heavy sigh. So much for this being an easy problem to solve, it seems. He rapidly shakes his head, a keening whine coming from his throat.]
I dunno...! I've never been married before! Hell, I'm not even sure if my parents were married!
Me neither! And I – I don't think marriage is all that great!
[ What do you do when you put two relationship-allergic individuals in a room together...you marry them off, apparently. ]
It's fine! It's fine, we'll figure something out. I just – don't think that's gonna be today, if I'm being realistic...
[ Because they are both clearly too frazzled to figure ANYTHING out. Like Vanitas, she would very much like to bolt out of the room and scream, but she can't just leave him here like this. It's her duty as a wife...or something... ]
Right?! Who in their right mind would love a miserable guy like me, anyways?! Only a fool would try to wed someone of my personality!
[Marry them off and throw away the key haha...]
No, probably not... We need time to recover-- or at least, I do. My head is throbbing, and I'm about ready to simply tear that piece of paper up.
[Her reaction warrants a laugh from him as he leans forward to rest his head on a hand, moaning softly under his breath. Even though they may not want to wait, it's probably the best idea so they don't get into more trouble.]
Right...? That'll teach me to take bets from strangers...
[ CALLED OUT!! Kara pulls the paper back, as if to say do not touch at the mention of the tear. ]
I'll hold onto it, then. Who knows when we'll need it in the future.
[ For the inevitable divorce arc. Or something. She folds it back up hastily and shoves it into her pocket. Then, she reaches over and grabs one of the bananas. ]
Snack on this, you'll feel better later. [ She tosses it over to him. ] And stay hydrated! [ ...Said as she remembers to take another sip of water. ] No more passing out, alright? Especially now that we're sober!
[So he says, but his cheeks remain red and he looks defeated, shoulders sagging.]
Don't go losing it now...
[He cautions her as he runs a hand over his face with a sigh. Though once she tosses him a banana, he catches it easily and sets the glass of water aside to peel it properly.]
Yes, yes. I'll take care of myself, don't worry. I'm not about to keel over or anything ridiculous like that. [Banana freed from the confines of it's peel, he slowly starts nibbling, and reaches back for the water to help down the fruit.] How can you be so damn pushy though? [Since he feels miserable and merely wants to hide under the covers.]
[ D'aw, look how grumpy he is. But she doesn't say anything else, and instead opts to take a banana for herself. She starts peeling it and is about to take a bite until- ]
Pushy? Ah, you're surprised because I'm hungover, too, aren't you? [ Yeah, that's fair. She laughs dryly and bites into her banana. After some nibbling: ] I dunno. I'm kinda used to just pushing past pain...or something like that. Sure is starting to kick in, though.
[Last thing he needs is to listen to someone go on about his foibles. He nods at her question, humming a bit around a bite of banana.]
All I want to do is crawl back in bed and sleep. [He's really not good with alcohol, or its accompanying affects. Which just leads him to sighing at how damn willful she is.] At least we're in the same boat, generally speaking. Filled with regrets, no doubt.
That's fine, you go do that. I'll probably end up, y'know...going out anyway... Make better...deci...sions...
[ But before she can finish her sentence, she happens to zonk out like a light. Clearly she'd been barely holding on during this whole ordeal. Her head drops down onto the table and she just. Sleeps. Like a person who hasn't gotten proper sleep in a while.
Well, that's one way of making sure she won't do anything funny? ]
[He boggles at her suddenly zoning out, but then, given the crazy night they had, it's probably not all that surprising? So he simply gets up and hefts her into his arms, then moves her to Noé's bed, tucking her in under the covers with a sigh.]
Geez... Who do you think you are, me?
[He mutters to himself as he seat himself on the foot of the bed, slowly leaning over until he's laying next to her legs, allowing himself to relax just a bit. It's silly, but... maybe if they just rest their eyes for a bit, they'll be fine. And have a better idea of how to handle their situation later...]
[ Kara sleeps pretty soundly, and unless Noé comes back and forcibly wakes her up, she's out for a few hours. Completely unaware of where Vanitas is resting, she may or may not kick him lightly, given that this is one of her bad sleep habits.
Eventually, she wakes up and groans. She opens her eyes blearily before she slowly sits up. ]
Mm...? Where - [ And that's when she realizes she's on a bed, tucked under the covers. She places a hand over her mouth and mutters to herself: ] Ah... How embarrassing...
[Thankfully that's enough time for him to get some much needed rest, too. Even her kicks aren't enough to throw him off, as he merely clings to her a little tighter. Not enough to wake her, but just so he doesn't get bonked in the head.
Only once she starts to stir does Vanitas too move slightly. A soft sigh escapes him in his sleep, and he murmurs quietly if incomprehensibly. Only one word is discernible.]
[ She sits up and realizes that her husband is clinging on relatively tightly to her, and her cheeks burn pink, simply because he's closer than she anticipated he'd be upon waking...
But the name says it all. He's dreaming of...someone else, probably? A former lover? Hmm. She has half a mind to put a hand on his shoulder and gently shake him, but she knows how awful he felt, so she opts to lay back down and let him rest. ]
[Finally, Vanitas too stirs and begins to rouse himself, lifting his head up and blinking blearily around him. It wasn't the most comfortable rest he's gotten, but he still feels better for having slept some more. The throbbing of his head has gone, and he no longer feels quite so sick as before.
Though once he realizes he's leaning on someone, he jerks upwards with a noise, head whirling towards her. Recognition dawns then, allowing him to relax a bit.]
Ah, shit, sorry... Guess we both needed the rest, huh?
[ She feigns clearing her throat so she can bring a hand up to her lips and try to obscure that flush on her cheeks. Her voice is leveled, though, as she shakes her head.
She takes a moment to debate on bringing up that name...but decides against it. They're strangers, after all, despite what's on paper. ]
It's okay. You seemed like you were dreaming of...something important, so I didn't wanna wake you up. Feeling any better?
[Thankfully, he's not one to press the issue too much, at least not right now. So instead he merely stretches, rubbing at the back of his neck to work the kinks out of it.
Though her comment about something important gets him glancing her way again. There's no blush upon his face, no smile like he's thinking of a night of passion or anything like that. Just a bit of sadness in his eyes as he nods vaguely.]
Yeah... I was. Thanks for not disturbing me. It helped a lot to just sleep it off. How about you? Holding up okay?
[ She nods in response, and catches that melancholy expression on his face. It was a bad dream, then. She knows how those go, but any sort of prodding about Luna will have to wait. Assuming she stays here long enough to get to know him that much. ]
Surprisingly well, yeah. I actually haven't slept that well in a long time. Having a bed helps a lot...so, well, thanks for letting me nap here.
[ She certainly seems more refreshed than she was earlier. The bags under her eyes are less prominent! ]
[Thankfully it's an expression which doesn't last long as he pushes the dream aside to focus on her and what she says. Brimming with curiosity, he tilts his head a bit and eyes her, before finally asking:]
Do you not normally have a bed?
[At least that's what it sounds like. He's been there, though, sleeping out in the wilderness, or not having the means to reach an inn or hotel.]
If I get lucky, I'll find a torn mattress on the streets!
[ She says it with an all-too-chipper tone, though it's hardly authentic and more sarcastic than anything. It's a pretty sad thing to say.
She softens considerably when she speaks next. ]
But, you know, I'm just fortunate enough to be able to sleep and wake up the next day. A lot of people...well, they sleep. And they don't wake up. If you know what I mean.
[ ... ]
I know I somehow wound up here, though, and this isn't where I'm supposed to be. I can tell, because it doesn't feel like the world's ending, and my attire kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.
[Not something to be happy about?? But he's been in worse situations, so he has no room to talk, really. So instead he sighs, shaking his head. Though for a while after what she says next, he's quiet, lost in thought before nodding and commenting quietly.]
Yeah... I do know. Not everyone is lucky enough to see the sun rise on another day. [A thoughtful hum as he eyes her, then laughs a bit.] You do, rather. Not Parisian fashion at all. Maybe we should get you a new outfit or two. I have money.
[ As Vanitas goes to wash up, Kara sits around, at a loss of what to do while she waits. Being alone is scarier than it should be these days, and she stiffens as she sits in her designated bed. She's currently wearing a jacket over her shirt, but when Vanitas comes out of the bathroom, he will find that jacket is off, revealing her arms that are bandaged.
The left side has one wrapped around her forearm; the right has a large bandaid slapped on her upper arm.
Her eyes snap open when he appears, and she gathers her jacket in her arms in a flimsy attempt to shield them. A solemn expression turns cheerful (and sheepish) again. ]
[Thankfully he's used to working fast and efficiently, so his bath doesn't take too long. Fifteen minutes or so tops before he's exiting the bathroom in fresh clothes and with a towel draped across his shoulders to keep his damp hair from wetting his attire. Immediately, his eyes flick to the bandages, and they widen in surprise at how many she seems to have.
It's almost enough to make him reach for his left arm, but he resists, fingers merely twitching lightly. Though a frown settles in on his face as he answers her.]
Yeah. All finished. [He pauses, then strides over to tug at her jacket gently.] Your arms. Let me see them.
