The Blue Moon Vampire's blood runs through my veins.
[Perhaps in a way he is a dhampir - just not one of the Crimson Moon. Whereas their eyes shine golden, his are an unnatural blue. Or maybe he leans more towards being a full-fledged vampire at this point... He's not sure anymore. All he knows is that his plan is now to take Noé with him, and to keep the fool by his side. He's gotten attached in such a short time that he hates himself for it, yet if he was to fall for anyone, Noé is as good as any. Better than most, he'd say.]
A Mark of Possession, yes. That of Vanitas of the Blue Moon. It's likely your teacher has my book right now... I'll need it back, though.
[Surprised, he raises an eyebrow as Noé studies his mark, but doesn't jerk away or protest the act, instead holding still for him to examine it as he pleases. The only sign that it affects him is the faintest twitch of his fingers.]
....a little. It throbs on occasion, and when I use my power, it eats away at me. That's why I need your help. To get out of here without need to resort to force.
[Which at least shouldn't be a problem for him. It'd just be a matter of doing so without being detected. If he didn't just....straight up ask his Teacher for it, because this is Noé, after all. Still, he glances from the arm to those brilliantly blue eyes.]
Eats away at you? So it's....spreading? How do you mean?
[He should probably be more fearful. More scared of this. But for some reason, he isn't. Of course, Noé would rather figure something out without things escalating. However, that might not be possible. And it isn't like the two of them don't rather stand out, if the de Sades got the word out and had others also looking for them once they left. Let alone Dominique....]
[Because that would be troublesome. Though by now he wouldn't be surprised to hear Noé wants to simply waltz up to his teacher and ask for it. He's such a simple, innocent soul... That's why it doesn't shock him that the vampire doesn't seem revolted or angry at the sight of his mark. Whether it's his obliviousness or accepting nature remains to be seen.]
Mmm. It used to be smaller. Unlike a typical mark, whenever I use my book too much, it continues to overwrite me.
[He flexes his fingers a bit before reaching out to touch Noé's cheek with that hand, fingertips lightly brushing over his dark skin. Perhaps if he can make it seem like Noé is escorting him somewhere, they could get further than they would otherwise. His main hope is that the de Sades have plenty to keep themselves busy and won't think to check on him for a time yet...]
....Oh. Maybe? I guess I just figured he'd have it at his desk or something.
[Noé wonders aloud. But, given it is him, while he isn't entirely ignorant on the book's importance and that it is powerful, it's also. It's Noé, so he really isn't considering the potential fuss if they did take it back.]
Overwrite? Ah, you mean like the World Formula? But...what happens if you keep using it? Your arm....
[The arm was already evidently affected. If it spread, continued....Noé isn't sure that would be a good thing. And not just because of the talk about how Vanitas would use it against the vampires. He blinks, frowning slightly as his lips part in question and concern, his hair shifting with Vanitas reaching for his cheek.]
That would be ideal. We can always check there first.
[Surely there would be a riot and an uproar if they heard Vanitas got hold of his book once again. They may even opt to kill him rather than risk the possibility of having their true names corrupted. His only hope is that his safety is required by the humans who captured him to be their pawn.]
Quite so. .....it means that there won't be anything of "me" left in the end. "I" will cease to exist.
[His voice is bitter and sullen, contrasting with his gentle touch. Carefully, he brushes some of Noé's hair back behind an ear before suddenly moving from the bed towards the wash basin across the room, where he starts cleaning up, a deep frown on his face. Evidently affected by their conversation.]
[He nods initially, before withdrawing his hand, his fingers from Vanitas's arm when the other shifts to climb back down out of the bed. Right. They probably should clean up and get dressed. He knows that. It still doesn't stop him from pausing when he hears that last.]
You....wait, that's...?
[Concerning. Actually, a terrifying prospect. Even if it isn't Noé himself that is affected. He sits up, gaze following Vanitas as he heads to the wash basin. He often finds himself trailing off, confused and unsure what to say, especially in protest, where Vanitas is concerned, it seems.]
[once he's cleaned up and dried off, Vanitas returns to Noé with a damp cloth and starts cleaning him up as well, pointedly avoiding his eyes. He doesn't want to see the kind of expression he might have. The concern, fear, or pity that usually comes with such news.]
....that's why I require your assistance. To get my book back and leave this place without causing a fuss.
[Finished cleaning up their mess, he touches Noé's cheek again with that hand, letting him feel it pulse with power. Hoping that appealing to his good nature and kind side will prove effective in swaying him. As if he isn't bothered by the prospect of losing himself to the marking on his arm, becoming something completely separate from himself.]
[But that doesn't negate the threat. He's more concerned about what might eventually happen to the other. Even as Vanitas cleans him and raises a hand to his cheek in reassurance. If he weren't so taken aback, he probably would have walked over with Vanitas to the wash basin. He'd been about to, when the other had distracted him by talking about how the mark on his arm would keep spreading. He raises one hand, reaching for Vanitas's at his cheek, lips pursing briefly.]
[It's sweet that Noé is so kindhearted as to care about him even now, when they barely know each other and he's been all but using him since the second they met. He figures he's stunned the vampire into a slight state of shock with his tale, despite him not seeming overly affected by him being part of the Blue Moon clan. Now with them both cleaned up, he seats himself back on bed across from Noé, gaze fixed on a faraway point. At least until Noé startles him out of it with a gentle touch to his cheek.]
...it's fine. I've made my peace with it already. But that's why I wish to live as I please, while I can. Not as some prisoner and plaything for the vampires.
[He's still processing it. Which is probably understandable. He's barely met Vanitas and everything yet. So, of course, it's still a lot to take in. It's understandable that Vanitas would want to rebel, to make the most of whatever time he might have left. With his...condition? Using the book making that mark spread. It isn't like he'd ever really considered his status, his position among the vampires and de Sade family, with his Teacher. He assumes they probably took him in for some reason, but he's never really questioned what they might get out of it. How they might make use of having access to him, his abilities. The chances of them forcing him to feed from people to access their memories or some such. He's never had reason to think too deeply about it. But then, that is likely not so surprising, given he's so trusting and oblivious.]
I'm not here of my own free will. My presence is due to the humans and the vampires brokering an exchange. Though there's no way the vampires would have accepted me into their world without some reason. I just don't know what their goals are...
[He shouldn't be surprised that Noé is completely oblivious to his circumstances along with his own. It seems like he's been deliberately kept in the dark as a means of controlling the poor guy, on top of him being so naturally innocent and naive. Sighing, Vanitas snatches up his clothes and starts getting dressed, keeping his eyes on the floor rather than Noé or even the garden outside, where he can see tempting freedom just a hair's breadth away. He's certain they gave him this luxurious room with a view both as under the pretense of being welcoming and to tease and mock him with the illusion of autonomy.]
[All he had been told was that there was a human here as a representative or some such. Or maybe he had been given more detail and hadn't particularly paid attention. Likely because he hadn't assumed it relevant to himself so much. Figuring Vanitas was more likely a guest of his Teacher or the de Sade family. Not so much in regard to himself. Still, he follows suit and gets dressed as well, pulling his clothes and boots back on. He fumbles with the buttons and somehow manages to look less put together wearing the same outfit, even if one ignored the mess of his hair.]
Astermite, I imagine. Humans crave the mineral for all kinds of uses. I was probably worth a whole mine of it.
[He practically spits the words out, bitter and scornful as he finishes tying his ribbon around his waist into a bow. Making sure he looks put together and as neat as possible, he turns to Noé once the other is dressed as well and does the same, straightening his clothes and tidying his hair with his fingers. Making sure there's no evidence of what occurred between them. Only if one with a keen nose were to smell them would they realize they share scents. And hopefully the smell of Vanitas' blood will be more prominent than that of their sexual encounter.]
....so will you lead me around the manor? I'm not permitted to wander on my own.
[He doesn't know if Noé will be allowed to guide him far, but it's their only chance.]
Astermite, hm? Oh, ah. I guess. This is where Domi lives, so she knows her way around better than I do. But I can help.
[More like help Vanitas get hopelessly lost and have the doctor somehow end up leading him around anyway. But. He'll.....try? At least? He closes one eye and tries to stay still as Vanitas fixes up his hair, then his clothes. But he doesn't recall anything specific that he was told about not letting Vanitas leave the room? So it's probably fine? He wants to get his book back, anyway. So he nods, likely appearing confident even in the face of his hopelessness with directions and navigation.]
Quite. Even if you can just give me a rough idea where things and people are, that should be enough.
[It would be just his luck that they'd end up going in circles or waltzing into the guards' barracks... But Noé is his only hope, as he was escorted here without any detours and has no clue where to start looking for his book. So once they're both straightened out, he strides for the large door leading out, coming to a stop by it to turn and wait for Noé to catch up.]
You'll have to open it for me. They've locked it with something that only responds to Crimson Moon vampires.
I don't have a map or anything. But I can hopefully figure it out. Probably.
[...Yup. He's really selling that and clearly so encouraging, right? Totally. Don't question it, Vanitas. He's. Totally got this. He does not....
He shifts to follow, climbing down from the bed and stepping to follow Vanitas once the other has fixed up his clothes. Probably, he should be more cautious in hearing that the other is locked here so purposefully. But. Well. It's Noé. So he doesn't. He merely nods, reaching for the door without really thinking about it. Vanitas wants his book, wants to go to Paris. If he can help, that seems important.]
[HE'S QUESTIONING IT, OKAY!! Because he thought that even if he only visits now and then, he would have a better grasp of the place??
Heavens have mercy on them.
Once Noé opens the door, Vanitas all but runs out, looking more lively than he has up to this point. Even more so than when they were making love, and that's saying something. Immediately, he dashes down the hallway, stopping when he gets to the stairs to peer carefully over the railing in search of any guards or other people.]
I haven't been here that much. It's bigger than Teacher's place.
[Yeah. Good luck trusting this guy with directions, Vanitas. Still, he does follow quickly enough, and tries to be quiet as Murr accompanies them at his heels, batting at the vampire's shin in protest after he'd darted out so quickly after the doctor. He peers over to check, but doesn't immediately see anyone else.]
[As the old saying goes, oh boy. Still, they can't just sit around and wait for a more perfect opportunity. They have to seize the chance they have while there's no one about. Since this is likely the guest wing, they can assume guards aren't quite as necessary if there's no one but Vanitas himself being housed there.]
Looks like it. First thing's first - we need to find your teacher's study and locate my book.
[So he starts down the steps, taking them two at a time in his hurry to reach the bottom.]
[He follows Vanitas down the stairs and gestures to the left once they get to the bottom. At least, he thinks it might have been that direction from here. His room isn't in this direction for him to have quite figured out getting to the study from here. But he's trying. He doesn't think twice as he follows and tries to help Vanitas.]
[Heading in the direction indicated by Noé, he frowns at the long hall of rooms leading off in both directions, clicking his tongue and sighing under his breath. It seems that even with a general idea of where to go, they'll have to do trial and error to locate the exact room.
Which is a pain, since either they need to hope Noé recognizes the correct one, or that his book is left out and easy to find. Preferably on a desk or such.
So he tries the first door, relieved to find it isn't also locked with the same method as his wing of the mansion. Likely they didn't expect him to get this far.]
Is there anything you might recognize as being your teacher's? Or would you know his study on sight?
[At least he vaguely thinks he remembers the direction? He follows the doctor and glances over Vanitas's shoulder into the first room. Glancing around to see if anything looks familiar. He shakes his head, one hand at Vanitas's shoulder as he peers over the other to get a look.]
I should recognize his study. It isn't this room. I think it was more somewhere around the middle? If the book is in there, it'll probably be on his desk or shelf.
[A great sense of relief washes over him as Noé's hand settles upon his shoulder; he was starting to worry that perhaps the goofball wouldn't even recognize the right room.... But if he does know it by sight, then that should make things a bit easier. So he nods, letting the heavy door fall closed again.]
Alright then, we'll skip the first couple of rooms and start more towards the center. That should at least limit how many we have to check.
Alright. Yeah, let's skip ahead a little. I'm pretty sure it was on this side of the hall.
[Though. Was he remembering that right? Or was he thinking of it when he might have been coming from the other direction, so it would actually be the opposite? Still, he's trying to help. Is sure he would recognize the right room once they do find it. If nothing else, he at least recognizes his room, Dominique's, and his Teacher's study. Still, he nods at the idea, stepping back so they could shut the door and keep looking, careful of Murr right at his side as always.]
[That's the problem with these fancy places: they're decorated to be symmetrical, save perhaps the paintings on the walls or the vases of flowers lining the halls. And even Vanitas wouldn't blame Noé for getting that mixed up. So he backs out and turns to head down the hallway, passing by the next two large rooms until they come to the third, which he opens with a hopeful stare. It looks similar to the other rooms, though decorated differently, with more books and globes, and even a astronomical models here and there.]
