[ Okay, sure, he might be alone in bed right now, but you’re not going to distract him so easily, Vani! Despite himself, Vincent’s lids fall with a snerk. ]
Gilbert?
[ Yes, best to just get right to it. ]
His heart is too delicate to be toyed with, you know. [ A pointed look. ] Have you been seeing him, as well?
[ Considering that Vanitas has withheld their meeting, he’d assume so. ]
[ He figured video would be much easier for this, so here he is. There's not even a super big rush or anything but... he still wanted to leave a message all the same. ]
[Ah, it's Oz! Someone Vanitas has taken rather a liking to, all things considered. So he's more than happy to reply the moment he gets the message, having gotten the hang of the phones shortly after arriving.]
Of course. What can I do for you? Is everything alright?
Oh! Yeah!! I wanted to come tell you something since it's something you wanted an update in.
[ He can't help but grin widely, though there's definitely a touch of pink rising to his cheeks despite his best efforts to remain looking in control about this whole situation. ]
About the whole... thing with me talking to Gil about that thing you and I talked about at the party.
[Flirting right out of the gate? You better believe it! Still, it doesn't take him long to arrive in a sweep of his cloak and flick of his tail. He only knocks out of politeness; otherwise he would have simply let himself in.]
[His bed?! Well, he just got himself a nice big bed with extra pillows, but the flirty meaning behind Vanitas' comment isn't lost on him.
...He's not sure how he feels about it, considering his conversation with Vincent.]
Welcome. [He gestures for Vanitas to enter.] I hope you'll enjoy your nap while you're here.
[Because that's what he meant with the bed comment, right? Totally.
Aether isn't wearing his scarf so there's a very visible bite mark over his neck and shoulder. It's much different than a vampire bite, but Vanitas may recognize it anyway.]
[ Vincent has been wandering around for a good portion of the afternoon, now. First, throughout the city, until his earring picked up a reading; from there, it was trial and error, determining which direction would strengthen its signal. It’s ultimately lead him into the forest beyond the barriers.
Following his death, and subsequent revival, he’d simply tried to move forward with life, as it were. Finally, he could tend to business at the new café and living quarters. At first, it seemed reasonable that Vanitas wouldn’t be around, possibly finding it too awkward to be in the same vicinity since their falling out — however, as days passed, he caught word that no one had seen the young doctor for days.
Despite how things had ended between them, the love he holds for his imprinted partner, once lover, is still ever present; no matter where they stand, Vincent would not be able to rest until he knew that the man was alive and (for the most part) well.
So, hiking through the wilderness with an umbrella overhead, he’s just sighing heavily about it all. Being outdoors during the day is his least favorite thing, and second to that is physical exertion without gratification. It feels like Vanitas is doing this on purpose! Particularly because he’s ‘forgotten’ about the tracking capabilities of the earrings they share… or, in other words, he wants to be found.
Strangely, there’s specific location which he keeps being led back to. Any direction past it, and the power humming through the jewelry grows weaker. With a tick of the tongue, Vincent kicks around some of the leaves on the forest floor to see if the earring has been discarded… but finding nothing, he lowers his umbrella and slumps against a tree to rest. Damn it.
That is when he thinks to look up, hand blocking the setting sun as he squints against the light. ]
[In truth, Vanitas' disappearance wasn't the most well planned. It wasn't as though he packed a bag and hauled himself out into the wilderness with the intention of camping out and making everyone wonder about him. No, he'd simply allowed his feet to guide him while his mind wandered as well. It was only as the sun began to set and the chill settled into the night air that he finally realized how far out he'd come.
By then it was too late: he'd stumbled across an irate bear, and his only recourse was to shift into his cat form and take refuge up the nearest tree. Unfortunately, even after the bear had grown bored and wandered off, he found himself unable to shift back, and unable to safely climb down, either.
So it is that he's simply perched on a thick branch, shivering with his ears pinned back in dejection when Vincent happens to take refuge under that very same tree. Part of him had been hoping his former lover would indeed try to find him, but now that he's here, he finds himself feeling foolish, which in turn makes him less inclined to speak.
Yet he knows that saying nothing would only make things worse, so, eventually, finally:]
...you actually came. [He sounds both grateful and disbelieving all at once.]
[ For a moment, Vincent must simply stare at the sight of him. An ordinary black feline in this very spot would have been too much of a coincidence, but hearing Vanitas’ voice indeed come from that tiny mouth… well, bad mood or not, he has to laugh.
But, once that’s out of his system, he exhales a tapering sigh, and gives the other a proper look of disapproval. ]
[Maybe Vanitas is doing something, maybe he's just sitting down on the bed. Regardless, he soon will find himself with arms wrapped around his middle as Aether hugs him from behind, a playful smile painted on his lips.]
So I heard you can turn into a cat...
[Amused, the traveler pulls his lover only closer to himself.]
[Contentedly going over the menu they've been planning for the cafe, Vanitas doesn't expect the sudden snuggling from Aether, though he's not at all opposed to it. He doesn't see any reason to stop, though he does tilt his head to indicate he's listening.]
Hmm...? Ah, yeah, that's true...
[At least until he mentions that incident. Then he's dropping the papers into his lap and whirling around to stare bewilderingly at his lover.]
Huh?! How did you-- [Wait.] --that bastard...
[He may be turning red at the fact Aether's found out.]
[The way Aether chuckles and smiles, obviously amused is screaming that he shared this information deliberately to see Vanitas' reaction and he got exactly what he wanted from it. Sorry, not sorry. He can be like this sometimes.]
I bet you looked really cute.
[As a cat or as a helpless creature stuck on a tree?? Probably both.]
As I was looking for an appropriate gift, I was met with dread as I realized I do not know what it is you may enjoy. I do, however, know what it is you need. In lieu of a gift you will enjoy, I hope this is a gift that will help you improve and become a better person.
Merry Christmas! Ereshkigal, Goddess of Death and Queen of Kûr
[Having most certainly not expected anything from Ereshkigal for the holidays, Vanitas looks at his wrapped present with no small amount of trepidation, wondering what the laws are on munitions. It could very well be something explosive...
Thankfully it proves to be no such thing, and is instead a book. While he likes books, he's a liiiiittle unsure about this one. It seems so hoity-toity and pompous. Fitting in a way, he supposes. All the same... He takes the accursed thing with him to the nearest chair and begins reading. Never let it be said he isn't one to make an effort.
The only trouble is that by about the twentieth page, his eyes are starting to droop. By the fortieth, he's out cold, slumped on teh table and snoring away. Maybe next time...]
video;
Ah, so you are still awake.
[ He knew that, of course. ]

Ah, I see... Darling brother, is it?
[He smiles serenely, with a dismissive gesture.]
We had tea once. Is that a problem? [He meets that look with a coy gaze.] I promise my intentions are... genuine.

So you did it, then? How did it go? Was he receptive to your feelings once you were able to spell them out?
